Main interests are in the fields of neuro-robotics and biomedical robotics on the following research topics:
kinematics and dynamics of robot manipulators, control of robot manipulators with flexibility, robotic and mechatronic platforms for biomedical applications, interaction control, teleoperated control, biological motor control and its application to robotics, biomechanical modeling and simulation, multi-sensory integration and sensory-motor coordination, human-machine interfaces.
Current projects involvement:
a) AIDE (Adaptive Multimodal Interfaces to Assist Disabled People in Daily Activities) – Responsible of the research unit. This is a 3-year European project within HORIZON 2020, Call ICT– 22-2014: Multimodal and Natural computer interaction.
b) PPR2 and PPR AS 1/3 (Control of hand prosthesis by invasive neural interfaces) – PI. These are two 3-year national projects (2014-2017 and 2017-2020), funded by the National Institute for Insurance against Industrial Injuries.
c) National project PCR 1/2 (“New procedures for the treatment of upper limb amputation finalized to bionic prosthesis application”) – Co-PI. It is a 3-year project (2017-2020) on new procedures for the treatment of upper limb amputation and the control of sensorized multifunctional bionic prostheses, through the Targeted Muscle Reinnervation techniques, funded by Italian Institute for Labour Accidents.
d) PRIN/HANDBOT (Biomechatronic hand prostheses endowed with bio-inspired tactile perception, bi-directional neural interfaces and distributed sensori-motor control) – Co-PI. This is a 3-year national project (2013-2015), co-funded by the Italian Ministry of Instruction, University and Research.
Expert and reviewer for the European Commission within the EU FP7 research program. Since 2014 she is expert and reviewer for the European Commission within H2020-FETOPEN-RIA and H2020- ICT.
In 2009–2012 she was co-chair of the IEEE Robotics and Automation’s Technical Committee on Rehabilitation and Assistive Robotics.
In 2012-2015 she was Associate Editor of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine and currently is member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Advanced Robotic System and member of the editorial board of Springer Series on Biosystems and Biorobotics.
